Costa Rica rewards patience more than almost anywhere else I've photographed. A hummingbird will hover close enough to feel the wingbeats, a viper stays perfectly still on a mossy branch, a tiger-heron stands at the water's edge with a chick tucked beside it. These aren't staged moments. They come from time spent in the field, waiting and watching until something real happens.
