Bare-throated Tiger-Heron with Chick

This Bare-throated Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma mexicanum) calls out from its nest, chick close by its side. I photographed the pair at La Laguna del Lagarto Eco-Lodge near Boca Tapada, in the rainforest of northern Costa Rica. This original photograph is available in a variety of formats, from wall art to gifts.

The adult's chestnut head and finely barred body stand out against soft green forest light, beak open mid-call. Its downy grey chick stands close by, beak open too, framed by a loose tangle of nest sticks. Together they capture a moment of rainforest nesting life that is rarely seen this close.

Bare-throated Tiger-Heron with Chick Photography Print

Tiger-heron nesting behavior is almost never photographed, and this image catches it with the chick tucked safely beneath the parent. An original Costa Rica rainforest moment, perfect for nurseries, offices, and conservation-minded wildlife collectors.

I photographed this tiger-heron parent and chick at La Laguna del Lagarto Eco-Lodge in northern Costa Rica. The adult stood tall on the nest, feathers fluffed, bill open, completely alert. Then I noticed the chick tucked underneath, peeking out like it had the safest little hiding place in the world. The kind of wildlife moment that is loud without making a sound.

Order this fine art photography print on archival paper for a soft, classic gallery presentation, or as a metal photo print on dye-sublimated aluminum for sleek rainforest color and luminous depth. Sizes range from 4x6 desk accents up to 24x30 statement walls. Each print is made to order in my Henniker, New Hampshire studio.

Bare-throated Tiger-Heron Photography Note Card

$5.95

For new parents, bird lovers, and anyone who melts over a tiny chick tucked under a watchful adult — an original photograph of a wild Bare-throated Tiger-Heron and her baby in a Costa Rica rainforest nest.

I photographed this Bare-throated Tiger-Heron parent and chick at La Laguna del Lagarto Eco-Lodge in Costa Rica, where the rainforest felt alive in every direction. The adult stood tall on the nest, alert and dramatic, while the chick peeked out from underneath like it had found the world's best feathered security system. Nature does not need staging. It already has better timing than we do.

Every note card is printed by hand in my small New Hampshire studio on heavyweight Red River Linen cardstock, so the patterned feathers, the soft fuzz of the chick, and the humid green rainforest hold their color exactly as the moment looked through my lens. The inside is left blank for your own words. Each order arrives flat and pristine with a matching envelope and protective sleeve, ready to send as a greeting card for a new baby, a Mother's Day or Father's Day note, or a thinking-of-you message to anyone who would rather receive a real wildlife moment than a card pulled off a drugstore shelf.
