Eyelash Viper on a Mossy Branch

The Central American Eyelash Viper (Bothriechis nigroadspersus) is one of the most striking venomous snakes in Costa Rica. I photographed this one on a night hike in Boca Tapada, Alajuela Province. The snakes worried me before I went. They didn't stop me. This viper was absolutely mesmerizing, and I couldn't put the camera down. This original photograph is available in a variety of formats, from wall art to gifts.

Vivid yellow scales against a tangle of moss-covered branch, with soft bokeh greens dissolving behind it. The composition draws your eye straight to that upturned head and those characteristic bristly scales above the eyes. The snake holds still but looks like it's deciding something. It's the kind of moment you either see or you don't.

Eyelash Viper Photography Note Card

$5.95

The perfect note card for reptile lovers, snake fans, and Costa Rica travelers — an original photograph of one of the rainforest's most beautiful, and most venomous, small predators.

My original photograph captures a yellow eyelash viper tucked into the rainforest greenery in Costa Rica, its bright scales glowing against soft green moss like a tiny piece of living gold. This is the perfect mix of beauty and danger, stunning, delicate-looking, and absolutely not something you casually poke if you enjoy having all your fingers.

The folded note card measures 5 x 7 inches on heavyweight Red River Linen cardstock, with the photograph filling the front and the inside left open for whatever you want to write. Archival inks keep the yellow scales vivid against the rainforest greens, and each order ships with a matching envelope and protective sleeve. Hand-finished in our small New Hampshire studio, it is the kind of greeting card a reptile lover or jungle traveler will keep on a shelf long after they read it.
