While in Costa Rica, I photographed this male White-necked Jacobin hovering beneath purple tropical flowers at La Laguna del Lagarto Eco-Lodge near Boca Tapada. Wings extended, blue head glowing, body angled perfectly toward the bloom — one of those fast little moments where nature does something beautiful and your camera either keeps up or gets laughed at by a bird the size of a thumb. This time, my camera kept up.
I print each note card to order in my small New Hampshire studio on heavyweight Red River Linen cardstock, with the photograph filling the entire front and the inside left blank for your own message. Archival inks hold the deep blue, white, and emerald green exactly as they looked in the rainforest, and every order ships with a matching envelope and a protective sleeve. It's a thoughtful greeting card to send for a birthday, a Mother's Day note, or a thank-you to any birder, gardener, or hummingbird lover who would rather receive a real wildlife photograph than another mass-produced design.
About this Card
About this Card
This White-necked Jacobin note card is designed to give a fast, fleeting moment a long life. The photograph fills the entire front of the card without any text or borders, which keeps the hummingbird and the purple flowers the focus, and many buyers stand the card on a desk, slip it into a frame, or pin it inside a garden or bird-themed gift basket long after the message inside has been read.
It is printed on heavyweight linen-textured cardstock, with archival inks chosen to hold the deep blue, white, and iridescent green of the bird against the soft warm greens of the rainforest background without flattening any of them. A matching envelope and a clear protective sleeve come with every order, so the card arrives crisp from your hands to the recipient's.
White-necked Jacobins (Florisuga mellivora) are tropical hummingbirds found in the rainforests of Central and South America, known for the male's brilliant blue head, white nape collar, and emerald back. La Laguna del Lagarto Eco-Lodge, where this photograph was taken, sits near Boca Tapada in northern Costa Rica, a renowned birding destination rich with hummingbirds, toucans, and tanagers. That makes this a meaningful greeting card to send or gift to bird lovers, gardeners, Costa Rica travelers, and anyone who collects real wildlife photography.
