Outer Banks Brown Pelican Mouse Pad
Outer Banks Brown Pelican Mouse Pad
Somewhere on the Outer Banks, this pelican perfected the art of looking unimpressed. Now that same look can judge your inbox from right under your mouse.

The Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is one of the coast's most recognizable birds, and I photographed this one perched on a weathered piling along North Carolina's Outer Banks. Its golden head, sculptural bill, and layered feathers stand out sharply against the near black background behind it.
A dark backdrop like this hides nothing once printed on 9.25 by 7.75 inches of smooth polyester with a quarter inch rubber base, small enough for a laptop desk or a shelf with no room to spare. I photographed this scene myself, not in a studio, not from a library.
About this Photo
About this Photo
The near black background does the real work here, it makes the pelican's golden head and pale eyes pop instead of blending into a busy desk. Even at 9.25 by 7.75 inches, the contrast reads clearly across a small laptop desk or a shelf.
A quarter inch rubber base keeps the pad from wandering, and the polyester top stays fast and steady under a mouse all day.
Coastal decor usually means driftwood signs and anchor motifs. This is something different, a real wild Brown Pelican with actual personality, sized at 9.25 by 7.75 inches for a beach house office, fishing cabin, or laptop desk.
What you get:
- My own photograph of a Brown Pelican, taken on North Carolina's Outer Banks
- Golden head and sculptural bill set against a dramatic near black background
- Compact 9.25 by 7.75 inches, sized for laptop desks and small workspaces
- Smooth polyester top with a quarter inch non slip rubber base
- Rounded corners for a clean, finished look
- A fitting gift for bird lovers, anglers, and Outer Banks travelers
Notes on the Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis):
- Dives headfirst into the water to stun and scoop up fish
- Once endangered from pesticide pollution, the species has since recovered
- Common along the Outer Banks year round, often resting on docks and pilings
