This Semipalmated Plover (Charadrius semipalmatus) stands on the beach mid-pull, a worm dangling from its orange bill. I photographed it at Fort De Soto Park in Florida, a premier shorebird destination along the Gulf Coast. This original photograph is available in a variety of formats, from wall art to gifts.

This Semipalmated Plover at Fort De Soto proved the early bird really does get the worm, even when the worm puts up a serious fight. I watched him plant his feet and pull until he won, completely locked in from start to finish. Patient, determined, unstoppable.
