Semipalmated Plover Pulling a Worm

This Semipalmated Plover (Charadrius semipalmatus) stands on the beach mid-pull, a worm dangling from its orange bill. I photographed it at Fort De Soto Park in Florida, a premier shorebird destination along the Gulf Coast. This original photograph is available in a variety of formats, from wall art to gifts.

Its bold black breast band, yellow eye ring, and orange bill stand sharp against soft blue and grey tones behind it. The worm stretches long below the bill, caught in the exact moment before the pull finishes.

Semipalmated Plover Pulling a Worm Photography Print

This Semipalmated Plover at Fort De Soto proved the early bird really does get the worm, even when the worm puts up a serious fight. I watched him plant his feet and pull until he won, completely locked in from start to finish. Patient, determined, unstoppable.

These little plovers are easy to walk right past on the beach, but get low and patient and they will show you exactly what they are made of. This shorebird wildlife photography print is available on archival fine art paper or sublimated aluminum metal, made to order in my New Hampshire studio. A perfect gift for bird lovers, coastal wildlife art collectors, and nature photography enthusiasts.
